Rosella L. Felsenfeld was born in 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
Felsenfeld received a BA in English from Roosevelt University in Chicago (1962) and an MA in English from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (1967). She earned an Abd PhD in English at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1975.
A freelance writer and researcher, Felsenfeld has edited Camerawork Newsletter since 1977, is West Coast correspondent for American Photographer and writes for Darkroom magazine. She taught writing at San Francisco Art Institute in 1977 and literature at Dominican College, San Raphael, in the same year. She was a researcher for the University of California Department of Pediatrics in 1978-79.
She won a California Arts Council grant in photography research in 1976. Her poetry has been published in Poetry From Violence and Saying Yes, the latter being in the Artists' Book Collection of the Art Institute of San Francisco.
A founding member of Camerawork Gallery in San Francisco, Felsenfeld has been on its board of directors since 1976.
