Roy Anker was born on January 10, 1945, in Harvey, Illinois. He is the son of John A. and Alice (Hiemstra) Anker.
Roy Anker graduated from Thornridge High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree at Hope College in 1966. Later, in 1968 Roy received his Master of Arts at the University of Illinois at Urbana—Champaign. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Michigan State University in 1973.
Roy Anker began his career in 1967 at Goshen College as an instructor in English and worked there till 1968. In 1973 he was appointed as an instructor in English at Michigan State University. Two years later Roy became a professor of English at Northwestern College, Orange City. Since 1988 he has been working as a professor of English at Calvin College.
The first book of Roy Anker was published in 1999. He was the editor of such books as Dancing in the Dark: Youth, Popular Culture, and the Electronic Media, Self-Help and Popular Religion in Early American Culture, Self-Help and Popular Religion in Modem American Culture, Catching Light: Looking for God in the Movies and coeditor of Perspectives: Journal of Reformed Thought.
