Career
An educator, Sanders, a native of Winn Parish, was for twenty-eight years the principal of rural Readhimer High School in Readhimer, north of Chestnut. As an educator, he worked to promote adult education. Sanders was married to the former Ottice L. Dark (1902-1993), also a native of Winn Parish and the eighth of thirteen children of Frances Melissa Faith (1872-1948) and William Lee Dark (1870-1952), a Lincoln Parish native, a farmer in the Gaars Mill community, and member and former president of the Winn Parish Police Jury.
Roy and Ottice Sanders had three children, Benny Lynn Sanders (born 1931), Mary Faith Sanders Weaver (born 1933), and Dana Roy Sanders, Senior
(born 1944). Sanders died in the early morning hours of Christmas Day, 1976 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital in Natchitoches.
