Royi Ogie originated Ogiebushi a variation of Nagauta singing. A disciple of Shogoro Matsushima, his early stage names were Shinshichi Chiba and Shunran Hasegawa. He left the stage in 1766. His new style of singing became popular first in the Yoshiwara gay quarters in Edo period.
