Pena graduated from Sunset High School.
Pena graduated from Sunset High School.
He then played soccer at Hartwick College from 1977 to 1980. In 1981, he played three games for the Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League. In 1983, he played for the Oklahoma City Slickers of the American Soccer League.
In 1984, he played for the Oklahoma City Stampede in the United Soccer League.
He spent one season with the Milwaukee Wave in the American Indoor Soccer Assocition.
