Crocker was born in 1946 in Mystic, Connecticut.
She received her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Bennington College in 2011. Her short story "Sam"s Way" in The Gettysburg Review was listed as a notable essay of 2012 in Best American 2013. Crocker is on the National Board of the Gold Star Wives of America.
She resides in Mystic, Connecticut, and has one son, Noah Bean.
