Ruth Thorne-Thomsen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (1970), a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from Columbia College, Chicago (1973), and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago (1976).

Career

Ruth Thorne-Thomsen has been an adjunct professor at Columbia College since 1974 and served as a staff photographer for the Chicago Sun-Times in 1978. She danced with the Sybil Shearer Dance Company in Northbrook, Illinois, in 1964-1965.

Using a pinhole camera and paper negatives, the photographer produces 4x5 silver contact prints and mural-size enlargements of approximately 3x4 feet.
