Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian actor known for being charismatic, quirky, and a quick-witted smart aleck. He is best known for playing the Marvel Comics character Deadpool. Ryan also performed in dramatic roles in Buried, Woman in Gold, and Life, and starred in action films such as Blade: Trinity, Green Lantern, and Safe House.
Background
Ethnicity:
Reynolds' ancestry is Irish, Scottish, Northern Irish, one eighth Luxembourgish, and more distant English and Dutch.
Ryan Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976, in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father, James Chester "Jim" Reynolds, was a food wholesaler, and his mother, Tamara Lee "Tammy" Reynolds née Stewart, a retail salesperson. His grandfather, Chester Ambrose "Ches" Reynolds, served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1940 to 1944.
He is the youngest of four brothers. Two of his elder brothers work as police officers in British Columbia, one of whom is a Royal Canadian Mounted Police member.
Education
Reynolds graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver in 1994. He attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University, also in Vancouver. In hopes of finding more reliable and steady work, he dropped it after only a few months.
Reynolds began acting at age 13 after attending an open casting call and landing a lead role in Nickelodeon’s teen soap opera Hillside (in the United States, Fifteen, 1991–93). After returning to Vancouver, he appeared in several TV movies and played a recurring role in the CBC fantasy series The Odyssey (1993–94).
Reynolds subsequently started his own improv group, Yellow Snow. He also appeared in TV series such as Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years (1995), The Outer Limits (1995), and The X-Files (1996) while working nights as a grocery store clerk to make ends meet. He moved with a friend to Los Angeles when he was 19.
After moving to Hollywood, Reynolds played a few supporting roles in TV series and movies. He was offered the role of Xander in Joss Whedon’s series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003) but turned it down because he did not want to play a teenager anymore. Instead, he landed the role of medical school student Berg in the ABC sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (1998–2001). The series helped Reynolds develop his gifts for mimicry and imbecilic bumbling, qualities that were also showcased in his lead role in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002). The screwball college comedy became a cult hit.
That role brought Reynolds work in a variety of genres. He starred in the Canadian heist flick Foolproof (2003), which was a box-office disappointment, and voiced the sidekick of Leslie Nielsen’s bumbling crime fighter in the Teletoon animated comedy series Zeroman (2004–05). He made the jump to big-budget Hollywood fare with a supporting role opposite Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks in the comedy The In-Laws (2003) and costarred with Wesley Snipes in the action movie Blade: Trinity (2004), for which he trained for three months and gained 25 pounds.
His status as a Hollywood star firmly established, Reynolds starred or co-starred in the comedies Waiting (2005), Just Friends (2005), Adventureland (2009), and The Change-Up (2011); the romantic comedies Definitely, Maybe (2008) with Rachel Weisz and The Proposal (2009) opposite Sandra Bullock; the action movies Smokin’ Aces (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Green Lantern (2011), R.I.P.D. (2013), Self/less (2015), and Deadpool (2016). The latter film was a blockbuster hit, and Reynolds subsequently starred in and co-wrote the sequel, Deadpool 2 (2018). He also appeared in the dramas Woman in Gold (2015) and Mississippi Grind (2015) and in the thrillers Buried (2010), playing an American contractor entombed in a coffin in Iraq, and Safe House (2012), as a CIA agent opposite Denzel Washington.
Reynolds also lent his voice to the animated family films The Croods (2013) and Turbo (2013). Exhibiting his skill for self-mockery, he played himself in an episode of Seth MacFarlane’s series Family Guy (2011) and made memorable cameo appearances in MacFarlane’s feature comedies Ted (2012) and A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014).
Reynolds’s more serious movies were among his least successful. The dramas The Nines (2007), Fireflies in the Garden (2008), and Chaos Theory (2008) were all poorly received both critically and commercially, while Atom Egoyan’s thriller The Captive (2014), in which Reynolds stars as the father of a kidnapped girl, was booed by audiences and panned by critics upon its debut at the Cannes film festival.
In 2012 Reynolds and screenwriter Allan Loeb (Rock of Ages, Here Comes the Boom) founded DarkFire, a production company based at 20th Century Fox TV, which specializes in developing comedy series for television.
Reynolds acquired a stake in Aviation American Gin in February 2018. He stated that his interest went beyond that of an owner and that he planned to oversee the product's creative direction as well as taking an active role in the business.
With his unusual flair for comedy, Ryan Rodney Reynolds unmistakably has surpassed other aspiring fellows of his generation to be one of the most potential Canadian actors in Hollywood film industry. He is mainly known for his comedic performances, particularly as the star of the superhero franchise 'Deadpool.' For his performance, Reynolds received numerous accolades, including nominations for the Critics' Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.
Reynolds was named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 2010 and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017.

Religion
Reynolds was brought up Catholic. He is very succinct in his views on religion today, saying: "Religion poisons everything good in this world."
Politics
Reynolds is a Democrat. He supported Barack Obama’s presidential bid in 2008 and showed his distaste with John McCain all at once - by putting two politically-charged bumper stickers on his eco-friendly, hybrid car.
But it’s not Obama who turned the tide for Reynolds. He’s been giving money to Democrats since the John Kerry days in 2004. Plus, he’s donated to super-liberal organization "MoveOn". All tolled, Reynolds has dropped $4,700 in support of Democrat/liberal causes.
Views
The most important issue to Reynolds is the environment. He said:
"I would love to see a green economy. I would love to see a huge investment in alternative energy. I’d love to see that pay off, because I know it would. I would love to see new homes that are built in California and Arizona and states that receive an enormous amount of solar energy, to have bylaws passed in which new home construction, you’re required to build solar panels."
Reynolds added that these things are easier said than done, and he wouldn’t like them to happen as a result of finger-wagging and preaching, which is nice.
Quotations:
"Are you stalking me? Because that would be super."
"When you have expectations, you are setting yourself up for disappointment."
"I don't personally believe that villains exist. Villains are just a way of saying that somebody has an opposing conviction."
"It's funny, because there are so many stereotypes out there about actors and movie stars in general, but I've had a great opportunity to meet a lot of them, and maybe it's just because they don't behave that way around me, but I rarely see that kind of abuse of power."
Personality
Reynolds has openly spoken about his lifelong struggle with anxiety, noting in 2018 that he carried out many interviews in the character of Deadpool to alleviate his fears.
Reynolds is very optimistic.
Ryan can do a standing back flip.
