Taoka Ryoichi was born on March 28, 1898 in Okayama, Japan.
Taoka was appointed assistant professor at Tohoku University in 1924 and later professor at the same university. He left the service of Tohoku University for that of Kyoto University as a professor (since 1940). Ryoichi concurrently acted as professor at Kobe University, Director of International Law Society and vice-chief of the Kyoto headquarters of United Nations Association of Japan.
