In 1913 he graduated from Tokyo University.
He served as an assistant professor of Kyushu University and Tohoku University and thereafter was appointed a professor of Tohoku University in 1922; following retirement under age limit was placed on the list of emeritus professors of Tohoku University in 1948. In 1925 he received a degree. He was a president of Japan Chemical Society and is a recognized authority in the world of chemistry and applied chemistry. His works include "Soda", "Science of Cyanidation"; "Liquid Ammoina".
