Ryosuke was born in 1849, in Ashikaga, Tochigi, Japan.
Ryosuke took over his father’s textile business and improved upon it by studying weaving at several places. He was the first to introduce a splashed pattern textile and then began weaving Habutae silk for export. He was the first to introduce European looms into the country (1884) to the advantage of the Ashikaga weaving industry, for which he was awarded the Green Ribbon Award (1896).
