Maleszka began his career as a lecturer at the University of Warsaw in 1974. Five years later he took the position of a research associate at the National Research Council of Canada. Then in 1983, Ryszard was appointed an assistant professor at the University of Warsaw. From 1987 he was a professor of molecular biology at Australian National University. Nowadays Maleszka is professor emeritus at that university.
Maleszka is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and New York Academy of Sciences.
On August 17, 1974 Ryszard Maleszka married Joanna Rusek. They have a child.
