When soldiers in the Takebashi Barracks in Tokyo rioted out of dissatisfaction with the rewards for exploits in the Saigo civil war he was mistaken as one of the riot leaders and was deprived of his rank and position. He later became an adviser of the Korean Army and royal household. In 1895 he was involved in the assassination of the Korean Empress Bin and was imprisoned at Hiroshima.
