Ryutaro Tatsumi was born on April 20, 1905 in Hyogo, Japan.
Graduated from Kansai Commercial School. Joined Kokumin Theater (1926) and studied under Shojiro Sawada, originator of Shinkokugeki (new national play).
Ryutaro Tatsumi became popular as a tateshi (killer) which was the favorite role of his master, Sawada. His favorite roles are Kunisada-Chuji (boss of a gang of gamblers) and Miyamoto-Musashi (expert swordsman). He is a member of Shinkokugeki Theater Company.
