Revol work in Saint St. Petersburg and Sevastopol’. Several times arrested by Tsarist authorities. After 1917 October Revol political work in Red Army.
From July 1918 on Eastern Front. September 1918—January 1919 member, Revol Military Council, 1st Army. 1920 chairman, Central Committee, Metalworkers’ Union.
Worked for All-Russian and Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Central Executive Committee. Then various admin posts. One of leaders of “workers’ opposition” group.
Active in “new opposition”. 1924 wrote anti-Party letter “K bakinskim rabochim” (To the Workers of Baku), for which he was expelled from the Party. 1926 publicly recanted his former views and was reinstated in Party.
Elected member, All-Russian Central Executive Committee. Delegation, 11th Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Congress. During 1933 Party purge again expelled from All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) as a “double-dealer and renegade”.
Arrested by State Security organs.
