Šaulić was born in Šabac, Serbia. His mother Ilduza Demirović was from Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He is currently one of the judges on the televised singing contest Zvezde Granda. His father died while Šaulić was in Australia on tour for the New Year"s Eve holiday. He couldn"t attend his father"s funeral the next day, and has often said he will never be able to come to terms with this fact.
He released his debut European Parliament Dajte mi utjehu in 1969 when he was eighteen years old.
He has also recorded songs in Macedonian, including a remake of the classic hit Zajdi, zajdi, jasno sonce. Šaulić held a concert at Belgrade"s Sava Centar on 25 November 2011.
