Background
The daughter of a playwright, Umeh-Akamune, a graduate of the University of Benin with a degree in Theatre Arts, was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) 1990 in December 1989, and would participate in Mission Universe, Mission Intercontinental, and Mission World, where she won the Mission Personality award.
Career
Prior to MBGN, she had been crowned Mission Uniben, and competed in MBGN 1987 but lost out to Omasan Buwa. While declaring that she would avoid scandals, Umeh-Akamune became enmeshed in controversy when months into her reign, a Nigerian periodical questioned her victory on grounds that her then boyfriend (now husband) Kese Jabari, might have had a hand in ensuring her victory at MBGN because he was an employee at Silverbird Productions at the time. Umeh-Akamine refuted the allegations by revealing she had contested earlier in 1987, but lost out to Omasan Buwa while Jabari was with the organization.
Since ending her reign, Umeh-Akamune has used the pageant"s exposure to pursue a career in modelling and singing, and had worked in public relations promoting cosmetic brand IKB. In 2013, she released a promotional Civil Defense which was a preview of her debut album "Warrior", with an international tour starting in Nigeria.
Anambra-native Umeh-Akamune is married to fashion designer and former actor Kese Jabari whom she had first met at the University of Benin. Together they have four children, including a set of twins.
