Saburo Yamagiwa was born in 1899 in Tokyo Prefecture, Japan.
In 1923, Saburo Yamagiwa graduated from Stock-Raismg Department of Hokkaido University.
In 1923, Saburo Yamagiwa became an assistant at Agricultural Department of the Hokkaido University. In 1924, he entered South Manchuria Railway and became an acting chief in 1927. Later, he worked as a chief of its Research Section, director of its Jueki Kenkyujo (Cattle Disease Research Institute), and then a councilor of the company. Later, Yamagiwa served as an engineer of Contagious Disease Research Institute, professor of Gifu Higher Agricultural School, and then as a professor of Agricultural Department of Hokkaido University from 1945. Thereafter he was a professor of Veterinary Department of Hokkaido University. Since 1951 he held additional post of a professor of Stock-Raismg Department of Oblhiro Chikusan Daigaku (Obihiro University of Stock-Raising).
