Sachin Tendulkar is a former Indian cricket player. A captain of the national team, he went down in the history of the game as one of the most eminent batsmen and one of the most successful run scorers. He is the first cricketer to earn 100 centuries in international competition and the only player to achieve more than 30,000 runs on the international level.
Background
Sachin Tendulkar, in full Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, was born on April 24, 1973, in Bombay (present-day Mumbai), Maharashtra, India. He is a son of Ramesh Tendulkar, a famous Marathi novelist and poet, and Rajni Tendulkar, an insurance employee. Sachin has two half-brothers and a half-sister, born in his father's first marriage.
Education
Sachin Tendulkar played cricket for the first time as a 3-year-old toddler with his nanny in the family's backyard, using a broomstick for a bat. Raised in the Sahitya Sahawas Cooperative Housing Society in Bandra suburb of Mumbai, Tendulkar had a reputation of a hothead who excelled in sport, however. He was passionate about tennis having John McEnroe as his icon.
As he grew, Tendulkar began playing street cricket with neighborhood children. One of his half-brothers, Ajit, noticed his talent and introduced him to a local famed cricket coach and a club cricketer Ramakant Achrekar at about the age of ten. After a couple of showcase meetings, Achrekar accepted Tendulkar to his academy.
Sachin attended the Indian Education Society's New English School in Bandra and then, following the advice of Achrekar, moved to Sharadashram Vidyamandir (English) High School, Dadar area of Mumbai, which had its own cricket team. At ages twelve and thirteen, Tendulkar was practicing and playing school matches a total of twelve hours a day on some days. He once played fifty-four matches in a row.
Such a hard work paid off at age thirteen when he scored his first century (100 runs), and a year later, along with his friend, achieved 329 out of a world-record stand of 664 in a school match. In 1988, Tendulkar debuted in first-class cricket competing for India against Gujarat in a home game. After finishing high school, Tendulkar pursued his studies at Kirti M. Doongursee College where his father taught languages at the time.
The start of Sachin Tendulkar's career as of a professional cricketer can be counted from 1989 when he was selected to play on India's national team. His debut game against Pakistan took place in Karachi in November of that year. By the age of seventeen, Sachin had toured New Zealand and England with the team. On the England tour, he scored a match-saving 119 points, which made him the second-youngest Test century-maker ever. While competing in Australia a year later, he scored two centuries (148 in Sydney and 114 in Perth), and in 1994, he achieved 179 against the West Indies. At the age of 23, Tendulkar was assigned the captain of the national squad. Tendulkar's career has got better each year since then.
In the semifinals of the 1996 World Cup, the team of India lost but Tendulkar turned to be the tournament's top run scorer, with 523 runs. India was defeated again at the World Cup three years later, this time by Australia, and by South Africa in the remainder of the season. On March 31, 2001, Tendulkar was the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in a one-day event, playing in a five-match series against Australia. He finished the following season third in the world in Test batting, and then took part in a forty-seven-day tour of New Zealand. In the 2003 World Cup, Tendulkar led the Indian team to the finals. Though the squad lost again to Australia, Tendulkar, who scored 60.2, was honored by the man of the tournament title.
Sachin continued to set records. The next one was shattered in December 2005 when he achieved his 35th century in Test play against Sri Lanka. Scored in a total of 125 Tests, it was more than the previous record result of another prolific run scorer of India Sunil Gavaskar. In June 2007, Tendulkar became the pioneer to record 15,000 runs in a one-day international play, and in November 2011 he became the first batsman to earn 15,000 runs in Test play. A historic "double century" set in a play against South Africa a month later made him the first cricketer ever to achieve such number of runs in a single innings of a One Day Internationals (ODI) play.
An ODI match against Bangladesh in March 2012 ended up for Tendulkar with record-setting 100th international century, which comprised both Test (51 centuries) and ODI (49 centuries) play. The athlete went public with his retirement from ODI that same year. His six-year stint with the Indian Premier League expired in 2013 when he retired from Test cricket as well. Upon the end of his athletic career, Sachin Tendulkar had the most international runs (34,357) and Test runs (15,921) to his credit.
Following his retirement, Tendulkar got involved in charity and in several business ventures. He was the ambassador of the ICC Cricket World Cups of 2011 and 2015. As an athlete, he captained the MCC team in the competition dedicated to celebrating the bicentenary of Lord's Cricket Ground in London in 2014. That same year, his autobiography, Playing It My Way, was issued. Tendulkar has coached the Ponting XI during The Big Appeal.
Tendulkar began to deal with business while still an active athlete, in the middle of the 1990s. He has collaborated with such companies as WorldTel and Saatchi and Saatchi's ICONIX in sports management. He has also served as a spokesperson for National Egg Coordination Committee, AIDS Awareness Campaign, and Luminous India. Tendulkar established a couple of restaurants in India, Tendulkar's and Sachin's, of which he is the co-owner along with Sanjay Narang of Mars Restaurants.
Sachin was also the owner of the Kerala Blasters football club in the partnership with Prasad V Potluri's PVP Ventures till 2017. Nowadays, the eminent cricketer owns the badminton team Bengaluru Blasters of the Premier Badminton League.

Sachin Tendulkar practices Hinduism and is a follower of the deity Ganesha. Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi was his spiritual guide from 1997. Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the festivals celebrated by Tendulkar's family. The former cricketer attends temples regularly.
Politics
In 2012 Sachin Tendulkar was the first active athlete to be assigned a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper chamber of the Indian parliament. His tenure lasted six years.

Quotations:
"I have never tried to compare myself to anyone else."
"Every individual has his own style, his own way of presenting himself on and off the field."
"I just keep it simple. Watch the ball and play it on merit."
"I have never thought where I will go, or forced any targets on myself."
"I never played with a runner in my entire life, even in schools, because only I know where the ball is going and how hard, when I hit the ball, something my runner will never know about."
"At least with me, the match starts much, much earlier than the actual match."
"I hate losing and cricket being my first love, once I enter the ground it's a different zone altogether and that hunger for winning is always there."
"Any active sportsman has to be very focused; you've got to be in the right frame of mind. If your energy is diverted in various directions, you do not achieve the results. I need to know when to switch on and switch off: and the rest of the things happen around that. Cricket is in the foreground, the rest is in the background."
"My point of view is that when I am playing cricket I cannot think that this game is less or more important."
"I grew up looking at my father as to how to behave. In watching him I grasped so many things. His own temperament was of a calm person. He was very composed and I never saw anger in him. To me, that was fascinating."
"Critics haven't taught me my cricket, and they don't know what my body and mind are up to."
"I am not God of cricket. I make mistakes, God doesn't."
"I've never thought of myself as the best batsman in the world. My ambition was to be considered one of the best, and to stay there."
Personality
Sachin Tendulkar was named in honor of his father's favorite music director and singer, Sachin Dev Burman.
Tendulkar refers to himself as a normal person in spite of the fact that he is counted among the best batsmen in the world and the world's wealthiest cricket players. He is accustomed to the fuss but remains humble.
Physical Characteristics:
Sachin Tendulkar is 1.65 meters tall. Left-handed by birth, Tendulkar learned to bat with his right hand as a youth. Although, he also often used left-handed throws at the nets during his athletic career.
