Sadanori Sudo became a henchman of the Liberal Party in Osaka. Devised a political drama as a substitute for political speeches. With the assistance of Tokusuke (Chomin) Nakae, he gave the first performance of this drama, called soshi shibai, or political drama, at the Shimmachiza (later Takashimaza) Theater in Osaka (1888). His troupe was made up of 36 members. Although it was at first a crude drama, the performance lasted for 13 days with the support of the newspapers Shinonome Shimbun and the Osaka Asahi Shimbun. This was the birth of the shimpa drama.
Afterward, the soshi shibai became unpopular because of the rise of the shosei niwaka (young man's impromptu plays) of Otojiro Kawakami. Sadanon died a provincial actor.
