He became a research assistant at the Tokyo office of the Oriental Culture Research Institute in 1930. Later, in 1949, he became professor at the Municipal University of Yokohama, and concurrently holds a readership at the University of Sacred Heart. He was specializing in the geography of Continental China and the economic system of China during the Tang and Sung dynasties.
