Career
Saiji Kihara was a retainer of Kumamoto Clan,he is remembered for his contribution in forestation. He is said to have planted 1,300 trees along the banks of Ozasa, Kuro and Todoroki rivers and thereby controlling the waters which damaged crops in neighboring villages. His sons carried on his good work and were able to reclaim a lot of waste land which became fruitful rice paddies.
