He is said to be the originator of Kutaniyafci pottery in Kaga (Ishikawa Prefecture). According to tradition, around 1658, Lord Toshiaki Maeda dispatched Saijiro, who was a retainer of his, to Arita in Hizen (Saga Prefecture) to learn the art of making Anta- yaki pottery.
