Saint Alban

He is the first Christian martyr of Britain, was mentioned by Constantius about 480 and about 580 by Venantius Fortunatus in the verse: Egregium Albanum fecunda Britannia profert ("Lo! fruitful Britain vaunts great Alban's name"). He is the subject of various legends, notably one recounted in the Ecclesiastical History of the Venerable Bede. His feast (in England) is June 22.
