Sakiko Yamaoka lives in Tokyo, Japan and graduated in 1984 from an art school in Musashino where she studied oil painting.

Since the early 1990s, she has done her art in a variety of city environments in Asia, Europe and North America. In 1991 Yamaoaka became interested in performance as an art form. She has after that been an artist within several disciplines - performance, video photography and installation - all with the thing in common that they are location related artistic studies.
In her performance art Yamaoaka wonders how we see objects and things, and also the human boundaries.
Yamaoaka has said that "I define my art-works as sculptures depicting action and time and relationship between artist and audience, artist and materials, in which I attempt to create an example of the human condition.". Yamaoka has done her performance exhibitions since the early 1990s.
They happen in a number of placed in Japan and abroad, at art festivals and at other events and also urban environments. Amongst the cities she has returned to several times with different exhibitions of her art are her home city Tokyo, Singapore, Jerusalem, Stockholm, Essen, Boston, Toronto and Warsaw in Poland.
In 2014 she took part in the performancefesticlan "Friktioner" in Uppsala, Sweden.
And in late 2014 she returned once again to Sweden this time for an exhibition in Malmö. In the 29 minutes long film she plays a character who is a Japanese artist who one day gets to meet a Warsaw philosopher whom she has admired at an distance.
