Education

Salis Ranjan graduated from the Calcutta University in 1921 getting here Master of Science degree; then he got Doctor of philosophy degree in the Edinburgh University where in 1926 he obtained Doctor of science.

Career

Salis Ranjan started his career in 1926, he worked as a Lecturer in Physics, Presidency College, Calcutta. Then he changed University and worked, also, as a Lecturer in Physics, but in University College, Colombo, 1928-1930. He was an Acting Professor & Head of Physics Department; Reader in Physics, Dacca University, 1931-1945; Head of Physics Department, 1945-1948; also Dean of Faculty of Science, 1947-1948; Professor & Head of Physics Department, Banaras Hindu University, 1948-1958; Khaira Professor & Head or Physics Department, University College of Science, Calcutta (since 1958).

He wrote about 250 articles & research papers; also one book "Atmospherics & Lightning Discharges".

Membership

He was a member of Institute of Radio Engineers (New York), National Telecommunications Research Development Advisory Committee (1951-53), Radio Research Committee, Indian Science Congress Association (President, Physics Section 1961), Visva-Bharati (Life).
