Top Kiernan has been doing all right. He owns Polymath, a thriving research firm which he runs from his home, the 1930s-era schoolhouse he's renovating just outside of Athens, Georgia. He's got a bedroom in a basketball court, a handful of flannel shirts, and a splendid collection of tops. He also has a serious habit: Top is addicted to the adrenaline buzz of danger, though periodic perilous errands to Latin America for Shaw's Mercantile help him handle that. Only now Top's long-best friend, Dee Lane, has disappeared with a fortune that belongs to Atlanta drug lord Raoul Menes.

Sam Hill was born on August 29, 1953, in Sumter, South Carolina. He is the son of John, a manager, and Martha, a seamstress, Hill.
Sam Hill graduated from the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1981. Also, he attended the University of Chicago and received there a Masters of Business Administration in 1984.
Sam Hill began his career with Kraft General Foods and served as director of international marketing strategy in 1981-1984 and 1987-1989. Historically a poor performer, the $2.6 billion units reached record levels of growth and profitability during his tenure.
Sam Hill then joined Booz Allen Hamilton, rising to a lead partner in the worldwide strategy practice. He was based in the Chicago, Sydney, and New York offices. At the request of the Board, he also served as Booz Allen's first Chief Marketing Officer. Hill left Booz Allen to become Vice Chairman and Worldwide Director of Strategy for D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, at that time the twelfth largest ad agency in the world. Two years later, he formed Helios, a successful boutique consulting firm based in New York and Chicago. Helios was acquired by Forensic Technologies International Consulting in 2005. Hill retired from full time consulting in 2014.
Sam Hill worked with Allstate, Royal Caribbean, Sunkist, Procter & Gamble, Pepsi, Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg's, Gap, Blockbuster, Diageo, Giant Eagle, GM, Supervalu, Ford, Harley-Davidson, and others. He has also worked selectively with smaller, less well-known companies and served on the board of the Florists' Transworld Delivery from 1998 to 2002.
Sam Hill now focuses on writing and speech writing. His work currently includes three business books, including the bestselling Radical Marketing, and dozens of articles in such magazines as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Journal, Strategy + Business, Fortune, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Ad Age, Brandweek, and CMO Magazine. He has written over a hundred and fifty speeches and scripts for major business forums in United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America and guest lectures at significant business schools, as well as board presentations, pitch documents, and other high-impact communications. In addition to his business writing, Hill has written two novels, had several short stories, and over two hundred blog posts.

Quotations: "What is my motivation for writing? I have no choice. Ideas show up, homeless, and I have to write them down to provide them a home. More seriously, I find myself compelled to write."
