In 1883 he formed a partnership with Edward Hazelhurst, and until 1900 was active in designing many important buildings in the city, such as; Odd Fellows Temple, Church of the Messiah, and the Manufacturers' Club in Philadelphia, also the Executive Mansion at Harrisburg, Pa. In practice after 1899 under the firm name of Huckel & Watson, he was identified with a number of public buildings in different cities of which the best known were the Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Philadelphia, 1900; St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Frankford, Pa., 1914; Christ Church, at Norfolk, Va., and the Cumberland County Court House at Brighton, N. J.
After the turn of the century Samuel Jr. Huckel was associated in partnership with Frank R. Watson.
Samuel Jr. Huckel served an apprenticeship in architecture in the Philadelphia office of Benjamin D. Prince.
In 1883 Samuel Jr. Huckel formed a partnership with Edward Hazelhurst.
