Selected site of Hartford, Connecticut, purchased in 1636, town probably named in honor of his birthplace. Represented his church at New England synods of 1637, 43, 46-48. Served as chaplain in Pequot War of 1637.
Accompanied Governor Winthrop of Connecticut to England, 1661. Believed in aristocratic essence of Congregationalism. Involved in prolonged controversy with elders over church membership and baptism.
