Mr. Thayer began architectural work shortly after the Civil War, and for twenty or more years was active in designing varied types of public buildings in New England cities. Among these should be mentioned the Town Hall in Brookline, Mass.; City Hall, Providence, R. I., dating from 1878; Library at Dartmouth College, built in 1885, followed by other buildings on the campus; Farragut House (hotel), Rye, N. H„ and the Nevins Memorial Hall and Library at Methuen, Mass.
