Carter, Samuel Fain was born on September 14, 1857 in Huntsville, Alabama, United States. Son of John Quincy Adams and Mildred Ann (Richards) Carter.

Education

Educational public schools.

Career

Began as printer’s apprentice in newspaper office, Sherman, Texas, 1870. With Galveston News, 1876-1881. Bookkeeper, Long & Company, shingle mills, Beaumont, and Village Mills, Texas, 1884, later secretary and business manager.

Moved to Houston, 1892, entered lumber business, and owner Emporia Lumber Company. Disposed of lumber interests, 1907, and organized Lumbermen’s National Bank, now the Second National Bank, of which was chairman of board. President Houston Building Company.
