Deputy state treasurer, Minnesota, 1891-1895. Deputy state auditor, 1895-1902, state auditor 3 terms, 1902-1914.
Candidate for government, 1916. As state auditor was in charge of 3,000,000 acres school and other trust fund lands, with timber and ore valued at $200,000,000.
Conducted many successful claims in Interior Department and secured decree of Supreme Court of Minnesota that iron ore under public lakes and rivers in the state belongs to the people and not to shore owners.
Commissioned First lieutenant Adjunct General’s Department, North.A., August 15, 1917. Served 8 months in France with American Expeditionary Forces.
