Background

Piles, Samuel Henry was born on December 28, 1858 in Livingston County, Kentucky, United States. Son of S. H. and Gabriella (Lilliard) Piles.

Education

Educated private schools, Smithland, Kentucky.

Career

Began practice of law at Snohomish City, Washington Ty., 1883. Moved to Seattle, 1886. General counsel The Pacific Coast Company, 1895-1905.

City attorney, Seattle, 1887-1889. Assistant district attorney for counties of King, Kitsap and Snohomish, Washington Ty., in ’80s. Active in politics for 20 years before his election to Senate.

United States senator, 1905-1911. Appointed Envoy Extraordinary anu Minister Plenipotentiary to Colombia, 1922, resigned September 1928. Special ambassador for Colombian presidential inauguration, August 7, 1926.

Republican.
