Jarvis, Samuel M. was born on January 31, 1853 in McDonough County, Illinois, United States. Son of James and Permelia Jarvis.

Career

Admitted to bar, 1876, and began practice, but soon became interested in banking and finance. One of organizers and first president N. American Trust Company. Opened branch at Santiago de Cuba immediately after American occupation, 1898.

Rendered important assistance to the United States Government. Offered post of fiscal agent of the United States in Cuba by President McKinley, but at his request appointment was given to the trust company instead. Became vice president National Bank of Cuba, fiscal agent and depositary of Republic of Cuba.

Director numerous corporations.
