Joined Landis’ Battery, C.S.A., attached to Cockrell’s Brigade, 1861. Saw active service in Mississippi, especially around Vicksburg in 1863, and command was surrendered to Grant when that place fell. Remained prisoner of war until exchanged and became a Lieutenant in Landis’ and Guiboir’s batteries.
Commanded a section of the battery at battle of Franklin, Tennessee, October 30, 1864, under General J.E. B. Stuart.
During last 6 months of war was a.-daughter-c. to General North. B. Forrest. Returned to Saint Louis after war and became partner with father, 1865, in J. Kennard & Sons, now J. Kennard & Sons Carpets Company of which became president
One of original organizers of Saint Louis Exposition, president Saint Louis Exposition Association 8 years. President first meeting of Autumnal Festivities Association (Veiled Prophet), 1891.
