Graduate gratiae causa University of Pennsylvania, 1819, honorary Doctor of Divinity, 1830. Graduate Princeton Theological Seminary, 1820. Honorary Doctor of Divinity, Rutgers University, 1830.

Career

13 children including Beale Melanchthon. Licensed to preach, 1820. Ordained to ministry Lutheran Church, 1821.

A founder Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) Theological Seminary, 1825, 1st professor, 1825-1830. Founder classical school 1827, which became Pennsylvania College, 1832 (now Gettysburg College), president, 1832-1834. An organizer Evangelical Alliance, 1846.
