Career
Returned to Burma in time for pro-democracy demonstrations and decided to enter politics, 1988. Achieved almost instant popularity with the people as the symbol of Burma’s drive for democracy. After constantly criticising the Ne Win regime she was disqualified as a candidate, for having married a foreigner and placed under house arrest, 1989.
National League for Democracy won a landslide victory in general election of May 1990, but ruling army council refused to honour this result. Professional career: United Nations, New York United States of America. Relief worker, Algeria and Bhutan.
