A model of consistency , Sandra Haynie, won six of the eight tournaments she entered through September, including the $40,000 George Washington Classic, the $35,000 National Jewish Hospital Open, and the $40,000 Charity Golf Classic in Fort Worth. Sandra Haynie was born on June 4, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. She is a daughter of James Haynie and Mary Jane O'Brien Haynie.
Sandra Haynie began playing golf when she was 11 years old, and in the late 1950s racked up several state amateur titles in Texas.
Sandra Haynie began her career as a golfer in 1961 when she joined the LPGA Tour. In 1962, she achieved her first professional title championship at the Austin Civitan Open. In 1965 she won her first LPGA championship. She won four golf championships in 1966 and four more in 1971. In 1975, she led the tour with six trophies, and two of them came at majors: the LPGA Championship and the U.S. Women's Open. Thirty-nine of her 42 career wins came from 1962-75. At age 33, Haynie began suffering from arthritis and spent three years mostly away from golf. Haynie returned to the LPGA full-time in 1981.
Her fourth and final major was the 1982 du Maurier Classic, and that was also the year of her last LPGA win. Her last full season on the tour was 1989. She also worked as a director and instructor at The WinStar Golf Academy. In 1975, Haynie published her book Golf: A Natural Course for Women.
Sandra Haynie is known as an American former professional golfer. She won 42 LPGA Tour career events and four major championships. In 1970, Haynie was awarded LPGA Player of the Year award. In 1974, she won the U.S. Women's Open and LPGA Championship and became the second golfer to win both titles the same year. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1977. She is also a member of Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
