Saneshige Takano was a sericulturist. He did much to improve the cultivation of grapes.
Saneshige Takano was born in 1846 in Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture).
Entered the sericulture business (1866) and began experimenting with cocoons and improving mulberry trees. Later founded a silk mill, the first in Japan (1874). Was appointed teacher of sericulture at Yamanashi Normal School (1890).
