Career
He was appointed as Full General (Zong Bing) of East Liaoning Area, bestowed the title Duke of Pacifying the West and stationed in Ningyuan Pass in late Ming Dynasty.
In 1644, he led the Qing troops into Beijing and was granted the title Prince of Pacifying the West. He was appointed to guard Yunnan. With strong military force in hand, he set up a separatist regime by force of arms in the distant southwest. After assuming the reigns of the Qing court, Emperor Kangxi adopted the policy of removing the feudatories.
In March, 1678, the 17th year of Kangxi's reign, Wu Sangui declared himself Emperor of China as ruler of the Zhou Dynasty with the era name "Zhaowu" in Hengzhou of Hunan Province (now Hengyang City). Afterward, he died in his bed unexpectedly in Hengyang.
