Sankobo was a Japanese carver of noh drama masks. He lived at first in Echizen Province (Fukui Prefecture) and later on Mount Hiei near Kyoto.
Sankobo was born about 1480.
One of the best noh mask carvers in the latter part of the Muromachi Period. His masks were extremely exquisite in workmanship and made him the most famed artist of the kind in his age. Three schools of mask carving branched out from his art, namely the Echizen-Deme, Ono-Deme and Omi-Izeki schools.
