A favorite with Nobunaga Oda and later with Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Ieyasu Tokugawa. Shogun accorded him the same treatment as a hatamoto, or a director retainer of the Shogun, providing him a fief of 3,000 koku of rice. Was the strongest player of go as well as shogi (Japanese chess) in his time.
