Ordained priest, 1902. Lieutenant priest (teniente cura) of San Ponciano, 1903. Appointed chief ecclesiastical amanuensis (notario mayor eclesiástico), 1904.
Secretary general of the diocese of La Plata, 1905-1918. Director of the Revista Oficial of the diocese of La Plata, 1909-1919. Bishop of Aulon and auxiliary bishop of La Plata, 1918 (consecrated, 1919).
First president of the Diocesan Consultative Body of La Plata (Cuerpo de Consultores Diocesanos). President of committee to construct the La Plata Seminary. Appointed inspector (visitador) by the Holy See of all colleges (colegios) in Argentina directed by Catholic Brothers, 1927.
Vicargeneral of the Argentine Army, 1927. Auxiliary bishop and vicar-general of the archdiocese of Buenos Aires, 1928. Subsequently named archbishop of Buenos Aires.
Has been largely responsible for the construction of numerous religious edifices (the Church Regina Apostolorum, 1929. The Church of the Virgin of Luján, dedicated in 1930. The parish church of Santa Clara in Flores, 1930).
