He briefly studied at Keio Gijuku School in Tokyo, the predecessor of Keio University. While studying in Paris, he sent reports to his newspaper, which were well received.
Joined the staff of the Nihon Shimbun newspaper (1892). He accompanied Marquis Moritatsu Hosokawa to France. He became editor-in-chief of the Osaka Asahi (1896) and then the Tokyo Asahi. One of the most distinguished newspapermen in Japan in the Meiji and Taisho eras.
