In 1970 Sara became Registered General Nurse at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Sara is a Founding Programme Director of Forum for the Future,a leading sustainable development charity. She began her environmental career as Secretary for the newly-formed Green party in 1983. She served as an environmental spokesperson for the UK Green Party in 1990-1992.
In 1969 Sara married Donald Maxwell Parkin, with whom she has two sons.
