She attended Virginia Technical where she received her Bachelor in Journalism and Public Relations. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in English Creative Writing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Leavenworth, Kansas, and various cities in Virginia. McCoy"s master"s degree thesis was her debut novel The Time lieutenant Snowed In Puerto Rico (Random House, 2009). Her second novel The Baker’s Daughter (Crown, 2012) was a New York Times bestseller, a United States of America Today bestseller and an international bestseller.
Her novella The Branch of Hazel is included in the World World War II anthology Grand Central: Original Stories of Postwar Love and Reunion (Penguin, 2014).
Her third novel The Mapmaker"s Children was published by Crown on May 5, 2015. McCoy"s writing has appeared in Real Simple, The Millions, Your Health Monthly, and the Huffington Post.
She has taught English writing at Old Dominion University and at the University of Texas at El Paso.
