Herman and Sarah Reitman were born in Romania and came to Canada for better prospects.In 1900,they opened a small store called American Ladies in Montreal.It specialised in dress making needs of ladies,namely,made to measure garments.Later on,they moved away from this field and entered into dry goods general store.
