Commanded headquarters Gold Coast throughout second phase Ashanti War, 1874 (several times despatches, Companion of the Bath, medal with clasp).
Commanded a Regimental District, 1880-1885. Major-General 1885. Cartulary-register 1907. Colonel 11th Devonshire Regiment, 1904.
Late of 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
