Sazanami Iwaya founded Kenyusha with Koyo Ozaki. He came into prominence at the age of 20 with the publication of his first novel "Hatsumomiji" and then estabusned himself firmly as a writer for children with another book, Koganemaru. After this joined Iiakubunkan, a firm of publishers to edit a series of magazines for juveniles, such as "Shonen SeJcai" (boys’ world), "Girls’ World", "Infants' World" and "Infants' Illustrated Journal", etc. Simultaneously also published a series of other children’s books, i.e "Nihon Fairy Tales," "Nihon Stories for Children". He was appointed instructor at Asiatic Language School, Berlin (1900).
Returning home became instructor at Waseda University. Sazanami Iwaya worked briefly with Ministry of Education in compilation of text books, visited America (1909).
