After his mission, he completed a bachelor"s degree in Japanese at Brigham Young University and a juris doctorate from the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific.
Career
As a young man, he served as a full-time church missionary in the Japan Tokyo North Mission. Whiting moved to Kailua, Hawaii and became the vice president and in-house counsel for Molokai Ranch. In 2001, he became the president and Chief Executive Officer. As a general authority, he has served as a counselor in the presidency of the Asia North Area and has been the area"s president since August 2015.
In April 1984, Whiting married Jeri Lynn Olson.
They have five children.

He is a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.
